Rural Outreach & Innovation AG (2009 – 2018)

Activity period: 2009 – 2018

Objectives: The e-MFP Rural Outreach and Innovation (ROI) Action Group brought together practitioners and experts involved in rural microfinance to address relevant topics for the financial inclusion sector, such as value chain finance and the role of member-based organisations, and to disseminate good practices and innovations in rural finance.


Activities:


  • Value chain finance (2009-2010)

Research on good practices of donors and financiers in the ‘North’ supporting practitioners in developing countries

Work led by Mariel Mensik from Terrafina Microfinance in collaboration with the members of the e-MFP ROI AG


  • Research on member-based organisations in rural finance (2011-2012)

Research on governance mechanisms and the role of strategic alliances for microfinance institutions relying on self-management and members’ participation. The study is based on the experiences of 5 member-based organisations from South America and West Africa.

Work led by the ROI AG Heads, Bernard Orilla from Alterfin and Laurent Biot from SOS Faim Belgique with inputs from members of the ROI AG and external stakeholders.


  • Innovations in Rural Finance Webinar Series (2016 -2017)

Series of 24 webinars with AG members and other experts between April 2016 and November 2017.
